GE was awarded an EPC contract valued at nearly $1 billion for gas turbine services for the Waad Al Shamal combined cycle power plant of Saudi Electricity Company (SEC). Scheduled for completion in 48 months, the plant will support the phosphate mining operations in the locality. GE will deliver the turnkey power plant, supplying four advanced GE 7F.05 heavy-duty gas turbines and a GE steam turbine. The 1,390-MW combined cycle plant will be able to provide the equivalent power needed to supply more than 500,000 Saudi homes.
Siemens was awarded a contract to supply two SGT6-8000H gas turbines and two generators to Mexico. The components are to be installed at the Empalme I Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) in Sonora, Mexico. The plant will have an installed power generating capacity of 770 MW in total. The customer is a consortium led by SENER which will act as turnkey EPC contractors for the project. The end customer and operator of the plant is the state owned utility Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) in Mexico.
GE received an order from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to supply two high-efficiency 7HA.02 gas turbine generators for the new combined-cycle Allen plant. The new plant will replace three coal-fired units that are being retired as TVA works toward a December 2018 deadline from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce coal emissions. The TVA Allen plant will have the capacity to generate 1,000 MW of power in combined-cycle mode, the equivalent power that would be needed to supply 1 million U.S. homes.
Indianapolis Power & Light (IPL), received approval from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) for its request for a certificate of public convenience and necessity (CPCN), allowing IPL to invest approximately $600 million into a new 650 MW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power station near Martinsville, Indiana and $36 million to convert two units at the Harding Street Generation Station totaling 200 MW from coal to natural gas. The CCGT project will commence construction in third quarter 2014 and is expected to come online in 2017.
