ABB to Upgrade HVDC Link between Germany and Denmark

ABB won an order worth about $16 million from Energinet.dk, the transmission system operator in Denmark and 50 Hertz, the transmission system operator responsible for the eastern part of Germany, to upgrade the 600-MW Kontek HVDC transmission link. The project scope includes installation of ABB's state-of-the-art MACH control and protection system, remote operator work stations, training and spare parts.

ABB to Provide Substation Solution in Southern India to Help Meet Growing Power Demand

ABB won an order worth around $10 million from Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Ltd (TANTRANSCO), the state-owned utility, to build a new substation in downtown Chennai, India. As part of the turnkey contract, ABB will design, supply, install and commission the substation. Key product supplies include nine bays of 230 kV GIS, power transformers and 23 indoor switchgear units rated at 33 kV. The substations will also be equipped with IEC 61850 based open protection, automation and telecommunication systems as well as ancilliary systems.

ABB Wins Power Products Order worth Over $30 Million from PSE&G

ABB won an order worth over $30 million from Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) to supply gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) for substations to boost the reliability of transmission infrastructure in New Jersey. ABB’s order includes design, supply and commissioning of ABB’s 550 kV GIS type ELK-3, a compact and modular solution. PSE&G is spending $4 billion between 2014 and 2016 to upgrade its electricity infrastructure to meet demand for electricity.

ABB Commissions World's Longest Power Transmission Link in Brazil

ABB successfully commissioned the HVDC converter stations to the Rio Madeira HVDC link in Brazil and delivered the project to Abengoa. The approximately 2,400 km, 3,150-MW power connection is the longest transmission link in the world, and will bring electricity from two hydropower plants in the northwest of the country to São Paulo, Brazil's main economic center. Apart from the two 3,150-MW HVDC converter stations, ABB has also delivered an 800-MW HVDC back-to-back station that transmits power to the surrounding AC network in the northwest of Brazil.

Black Hills Selects Ventyx Enterprise Asset Management Solution

Ventyx, an ABB company, signed a new license agreement with diversified energy company Black Hills to deploy Ventyx's leading enterprise asset management (EAM) solution, Ventyx Asset Suite, across the utility's T&D operations. Black Hills is replacing its myriad existing systems to modernize and optimize its T&D operations as part of a broad "Utility of the Future" initiative. Black Hills will roll out Asset Suite in a phased approach across its gas and electric utility operations serving 777,000 customers in seven states.

ABB to Connect Tidal Project to UK Grid for Atlantis Resources

ABB was awarded a contract by Atlantis Resources Limited to provide the onshore grid connection for Phase I of the MeyGen tidal stream project in Scotland's Pentland Firth. The first 6-MW demonstration phase of the UK's first large-scale tidal array scheme will see four submerged turbines installed in the Inner Pentland Firth just north of Caithness, with first power expected to be delivered by 2016. ABB is responsible for the onshore power conversion and grid connection systems to feed the electricity into the local distribution grid.

ABB Awarded $400 Million Order for Maritime Link Power Project in Canada

ABB won an order worth approximately $400 million from NSP Maritime Link, a subsidiary of Emera, to supply a HVDC power transmission solution creating the first electricity link between the island of Newfoundland and the North American power grid. The order was booked in the second quarter of 2014. The Maritime Link Project is a 500-MW HVDC connection that will deploy ABB's HVDC Light Voltage Source Conversion (VSC) technology incorporating a full VSC bipolar configuration to further enhance system availability.

ABB Wins Power Order Worth $78 Million in Saudi Arabia

ABB won an order worth $78 million from Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), Saudi Arabia's national power transmission and distribution operator. ABB will supply transformers for two new combined-cycle power plants that will boost transmission capacity around the capital, Riyadh, and surrounding areas of the central region. ABB will deliver generator step-up (GSU) transformers, power transformers and station service transformers for SEC's combined-cycle power plants. The order was booked in the second quarter of this year.
