Canadian Solar and NCC Complete Diesel Hybrid PV Installation Serving First Nation Community

Canadian Solar completed the first diesel hybrid PV system in the remote microgrids in northern Ontario, Canada. The 152kW rooftop solar array on the Deer Lake First Nation Elementary School is the first project under the strategic partnership with NCC Development (NCC), a First Nation renewable energy management company. NCC uses renewable energy (RE) microgrid solutions to assist the energy needs of off-grid First Nations and remote communities.

Canadian Solar Opens Microgrid Testing Center in Ontario

Canadian Solar opened the new Canadian Solar Microgrid Testing Centre to focus on microgrid solution testing, system solution design and smart grid assessment services. The Canadian Solar Microgrid Testing Centre, partially funded by the Ontario Ministry of Energy, will be located in Guelph, Ontario and will work with its collaborators to provide shareable services for utilities, universities and colleges, communities, and companies that engage in the development of microgrid solutions.

PSEG Acquires Two Power Plants from Canadian Solar

Canadian Solar’s subsidiary, CSI Holdco LLC sold two utility-scale solar power plants totaling 4.4 MW to PSEG subsidiary, PSEG Solar Source. The plants have a 20-year off taking agreement with PG&E. The solar installations, together now called the PSEG Shasta Solar Farm, is built at over 3,300 feet in elevation between Mount Lassen and Mount Shasta located in northern California. Construction started in July of 2013, with commercial operation expected in early 2014.

RES Canada to Build Two 10- MW Solar Plants in Ontario

Renewable Energy Systems Canada (RES Canada) will construct two 10-MW solar PV facilities for Canadian Solar Solutions (Canadian Solar). The Mighty Solar and Taylor Kidd projects qualify for the province's FIT (feed-in-tariff) program and are scheduled for completion in 2014. The electricity from Mighty Solar and Taylor Kidd will be sold under the 20-year feed-in-tariff contract with the Ontario Power Authority.

Duke Energy Renewables, Integrys Solar, Canadian Solar and Community Energy Complete Solar Project in Massachusetts

Duke Energy Renewables, Integrys Solar, Canadian Solar, and Community Energy Solar completed a 3-MW solar power project in Berkley, Mass. The Berkley East Solar Power Project is co-owned by Canadian Solar and INDU Solar Holdings – a joint venture between subsidiaries of Duke Energy and of Integrys Energy Services. Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant will purchase the power generated from the project under a 25-year agreement.
