MARC, held June 22-25 in Indianapolis, opened with remarks from Indiana URC Chair Jim Huston and Commissioner Sarah Freeman.

The National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates gathered for its mid-year meeting in Columbus, where the organization was founded in 1979.

This year’s conference was held in Washington, D.C. One theme throughout the three days of proceedings was the surge in demand for electric power and strategies to address it.

Topic numbers one, two, and three were advancing nuclear power’s resurgence at the Nuclear Energy Institute's annual Nuclear Energy Policy Forum. The conference program was jam packed with the leading thought leaders and decision makers on this critical subject.

“We’re seeing annual growth rates of between 13-16% nationally from data center power year-over-year between now and the year 2030. Data centers constituted about 5% of total U.S. demand in 2024, for comparison. That’ll increase to between 16-23% percent by 2033.”
