New Opportunities: Lawrence E. De Simone joined Northeast Utilities as president of subsidiary Northeast Utilities Enterprises Inc. He will report to Charles W. Shivery, chairman, president, and CEO of Northeast Utilities. De Simone comes to NU from PPL Corp., where he most recently served as executive vice president. The Northeast Utilities Board of Trustees also elected Patricia C. Cosgel assistant treasurer of Northeast Utilities, effective Jan. 1, 2005. Cosgel will succeed Randy A. Shoop, who was promoted to vice president and treasurer. Cosgel moves up from her role as manager of corporate finance at the company.

Kent McCargar, vice president and CFO at DTE Energy Services, was named president of the company effective Nov. 1, succeeding President Barry Markowitz, who will retire at the end of the year.

Black Hills Corp. announced the appointment of Linden R. Evans to president and COO-Retail Operations. Evans previously was vice president and general manager of Black Hills FiberCom, the company's broadband telecommunications subsidiary.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) assigned John Hanna as senior resident inspector at Fort Calhoun Station, a nuclear power plant near Fort Calhoun, Neb. Hanna first joined the NRC at its Region IV office in Arlington, Texas, as a reactor engineer.

Gary Stephenson has joined DPL Inc. as vice president, commercial operations. Stephenson most recently was vice president, commercial operations, for Intergen, responsible for its energy marketing and trading activities. Prior to that, he was vice president, portfolio management, for PG&E National Energy Group.
