New Opportunities: Portland General Electric (PGE) announced Maria M. Pope as senior v.p. of finance, CFO and treasurer. She fills the position vacated by Jim Piro who became CEO and president on Jan. 1, 2009. Pope has served on the utility’s board since 2006 but resigned at year-end 2008. PGE also announced the election of Dinyar Mistry as v.p., internal audit, and Jane Yura as v.p., regulation and rates.

Hawaiian Electric Co. named Richard M. Rosenblum president and CEO, replacing T. Michael May who stepped down in August 2008. Rosenblum was senior v.p. of generation at Southern California Edison.

UniSource Energy named Paul J. Bonavia as its chairman, president and CEO. Bonavia was president of the utilities group at Xcel Energy.

Midwest ISO announced John H. Bear, currently president and COO, will succeed T. Graham Edwards as CEO. Edwards will serve as president emeritus through a transition ending April 1.

Avista Utilities named Dennis Vermillion its new president.

EES North America

Spectra Energy Partners announced Gregory J. Rizzo assumed the role of president and CEO, but will remain on the board. He replaces Greg Harper who left in December to become senior v.p. and group president for CenterPoint Energy Pipelines and Field Services.

Calpine announced Laura D. Guthrie is hired as senior v.p., human resources and previously held the same position at Hercules Offshore.

Atmos Energy named Charles M. Davis as v.p., corporate development. He was senior v.p. of corporate development for Regency, a Dallas-based natural gas processor.

PNM Resources named Brian Hayduk as president of First Choice Power, its Texas competitive retail electric provider.

Peabody Energy promoted George J. Schuller to v.p. of engineering and technical services. He continues to be responsible for new mine development, with added duties for engineering, geology and environmental functions.

National Grid appointed Nereida Perez as its first v.p. of inclusion and diversity.

Alliant Energy announced several executive changes. Eliot Protsch is promoted to senior executive v.p. and COO from senior executive v.p. and CFO. Barbara Swan will expand her current duties in the roles of executive v.p., general counsel and chief administrative officer. She will continue as president of Wisconsin Power and Light. Patricia Kampling is promoted to v.p., CFO and treasurer. She was v.p. and treasurer. Thomas Aller is appointed to the new position of senior v.p., energy resource and development, from senior v.p., energy delivery. Aller will continue in the position as president of Interstate Power and Light. Dundeana K. Doyle is promoted to senior v.p., energy delivery from v.p., strategy and regulatory affairs.

Falcon Gas Storage said its original founding management group exercised a partial equity sales option and stepped down at year-end 2008, while retaining a significant equity position. The company’s board named a new senior management team consisting of Tore Nelson, James Goetz and Vernon Williams.


Retirements & Resignations: UniSource Energy announced the retirement of James S. Pignatelli as chairman, president and CEO of UniSource Energy Corp. and affiliates Tucson Electric Power and UniSource Energy Services. As noted above, he is replaced by Paul J. Bonavia.

Atmos Energy announced the resignation of Pat Reddy as senior v.p. and CFO and named Fred Meisenheimer, v.p. and controller as interim CFO.
