New Opportunities: American Electric Power named Michael Rencheck senior vice president and chief nuclear officer for its D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant in Bridgman, Mich., effective Nov. 1. He has been AEP’s senior vice president – engineering, projects and field services since January 2006.

The American Public Power Association (APPA) elected Roger B. Kelley, president and CEO of the New York Power Authority (NYPA), to its board of directors. He is completing an unexpired term that ends in June 2008. He will then be eligible for election to a full three-year term.

OGE Energy Corp. named Senior Vice President Danny P. Harris as COO. He will retain his title and responsibilities as president of Enogex Inc., OGE Energy’s natural-gas pipeline business. The appointment of Harris to the COO role continues the succession plan implemented following the death on Sept. 22 of OGE Chairman and CEO Steven Moore. Pete Delaney, who has held the president title since January, was named chairman and CEO on Sept. 23.

Glen Justis joined Deloitte & Touche LLP as a director in the global energy markets group of the organization’s regulatory and capital markets practice. He has more than 20 years of energy industry experience. Prior to joining Deloitte, Justis was associated with R.W. Beck Inc., where he led the firm’s energy commodity and enterprise risk management practice areas. He was previously affiliated with Ameren Corp. and Union Electric Co. of St. Louis, Mo.

PPL Corp. announced its vice president of human resources, Ron Schwarz, plans to retire. Schwarz will stay on through early January in a transitional role. Stephen R. Russo, who came to PPL as general manager of human resources in December 2006, took over as vice president of the organization.

Atmos Energy Corp. said it selected Richard Gius as vice president and CIO. Gius previously worked for Cardinal Health Inc., where he had been CIO and senior vice president.

Gil C. Quiniones, senior vice president of energy and telecommunications at the New York City Economic Development Corp. and chairman of the New York City Energy Policy Task Force, is joining the New York Power Authority as an executive vice president. Gius succeeds Leslie H. Duncan, who retired as Atmos Energy’s CIO in 2006.

Carlos A. Gavilondo, former general counsel for Niagara Mohawk, a National Grid company, joined the Syracuse office of Hiscock & Barclay LLP as of counsel to the firm. Gavilondo worked for National Grid for 11 years.


Retired:Jack Davis announced his retirement as president and COO of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. and CEO of Arizona Public Service Co. (APS), the state’s largest electricity provider. The Pinnacle West board of directors named current APS President Don Brandt to the CEO position. Davis joined APS in 1973 as a systems-planning engineer. He was elected to the Pinnacle West board of directors in 2001.

Michael J. Cuzzolina, vice president-accounting and financial control and chief risk officer for UGI Corp., will retire in the spring of 2008 after 34 years of service. Cuzzolina has been principal accounting officer since 2003.


Deceased: Robert B. McGehee, 64, chairman and CEO of Progress Energy, died after suffering a stroke Sunday, Oct. 7, while on company business in London. McGehee came to Progress Energy predecessor Carolina Power & Light in 1997 as senior vice president and general counsel. He was named CEO in March 2004 and chairman of the board in May 2004.
