New Opportunities: FirstEnergy Corp. named Dennis L. Dabney its vice-president of human resources. He was director of human and labor relations at DTE Energy.

Northeast Utilities announced Johnny D. Magwood as its first chief customer officer, from Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. where he was senior vice president, customer relations and account services.

AES appointed Ned Hall its executive vice president and president of its wind generation division. He was vice president and president of AES Renewable Generation. Andrew Vesey was appointed executive vice president and president, Latin American region. He most recently served as chief operating officer for that region.

Intrepid Technology and Resources named Jack Haffey as its chief executive officer. He previously was executive vice president and chief operating officer at Montana Power Co.

Kissimmee Utility Authority appointed Susan C. Postans as its vice president of customer service. She previously served with Progress Energy Florida for 18 years.

Westmoreland Coal Co. named D.L. Lobb as its president and chief executive officer. He came from Peabody Energy Corp. Westmoreland’s previous President and CEO, Keith E. Alessi, transitioned to a new role, remaining on the board of directors and standing for election as executive chairman of the board. Robert E. Kilen, the company’s current chairman, retired in May.

Arch Coal elected John T. Drexler as senior vice president and chief financial officer. John W. Lorson was elected vice president and chief accounting officer, and his successor, Gregory A, Szczepan, has been named corporate controller.

Comverge appointed Arthur “Bud” Vos as its chief technology officer and vice president of strategy, from vice president of marketing and strategy.

Itron promoted Malcom Unsworth to president and chief operating officer. He most recently served as senior vice president and chief operating officer of subsidiary, Actaris. Itron also promoted Marcel Regnier to senior vice president and chief operating officer of Actaris, from managing director of Actaris’ water and heat business unit.


Board Members: The National Mining Association elected Gary Goldberg as vice chairman of its board of directors. Goldberg is president and chief executive officer of Rio Tinto Minerals.

The New York Independent System Operator elected Christopher O. Ward to its board of directors.

Oglethorpe Power re-elected Benny W. Denham to a sixth term as chairman of the board of directors. J. Sam Rabun was re-elected to a ninth term as vice chairman.

Energy West elected Michael German to its board of directors. He is chief executive officer at Corning Natural Gas Corp.

The Empire District Electric Co. announced that Kenneth R. Allen, William L. Gipson and Bill D. Helton were re-elected to three-year terms on the board of directors.

The Institute of Nuclear Power Operations re-elected Lewis Hay, III as chairman. Hay is chairman and CEO of FPL Group, Inc. Mayo A. Shattuck was elected vice chairman, and is the president and CEO of Constellation Energy Group. INPO re-elected the following directors for 2008: Anthony J. Alexander, president and CEO, FirstEnergy Corp.; Christopher M. Crane, executive vice president of Exelon and COO of Exelon Generation; James O. Ellis, Jr., president and CEO, INPO; Thomas F. FarrellII, chairman, president and CEO, Dominion; Alan J. Fohrer, chairman and CEO, Southern California Edison; W. Gary Gates, president and CEO, Omaha Public Power District; Michael R Kansler, president and chief nuclear officer, Entergy Nuclear; Thomas D. Kilgore, president and CEO, Tennessee Valley Authority; Michael G. Morris, chairman , president and CEO, American Electric Power; William J. Post, chairman and CEO, Pinnacle West Capital; David M.
